Up-and-over garage doors

A familiar design, carefully specified.

A single panel lifts up and over into the garage. Choose the right mechanism, finish and operating arrangement for a straightforward replacement or a refreshed frontage.

Up-and-over garage doors on a finished residential garage
Think beyond the frontage

One panel tilts out, then lifts overhead

A practical option for many existing garages where the opening and clear space suit a one-piece door. Compare canopy and retractable mechanisms rather than assume they operate in the same way.

Space and clearance

Allow for the outward movement of the panel as it opens. A canopy mechanism leaves part of the open door projecting; a retractable version runs further back into the garage.

The complete specification

Insulation and weather sealing depend on the particular model. Do not assume a basic single-skin panel offers the same performance as an insulated sectional door.

The trade-off to consider

Opening clearance and the mechanism can reduce useful space around the entrance. Automation compatibility must be checked for the specific door, not added as an assumption.

A better brief. A better fit.

What to send for a quote

Send the opening width and height, a photo of the existing frame and the space in front.

  • Allow room in front while the panel swings. Canopy and retractable systems park differently.
  • Tell us if you want manual or remote operation and whether there is another way into the garage.
Consider the whole frontage

Colour, texture and proportion.

Use the gallery to narrow down the appearance you like. We confirm the available finishes on the range that suits your opening.

The details, answered

Before you choose.

Can this door be automated?

Automation depends on the specific door and mechanism. Your quotation should identify the motor, controls, safety equipment and any electrical work. We confirm compatibility rather than assume all doors accept the same operator.

What happens during a power cut?

An automated door needs an appropriate manual-release arrangement. If the garage has no separate entrance, discuss an external emergency release before ordering. Ask for a demonstration at handover and keep the instructions accessible.

Can I measure it myself?

Approximate measurements can support an initial estimate. Final manufacturing dimensions must account for the mounting position, frame, mechanism and tolerances. For a fitted order, these are confirmed through the survey. For supply only, agree measurement responsibility with your installer.

What affects the installed price?

Opening size, door range, insulation, finish, glazing, automation, removal, access and making good can all affect the price. Compare written quotations with the same scope and check VAT, electrical work and optional accessories.

Is an insulated door enough to make a warm room?

No. Walls, roof, floor, air leakage and ventilation also matter. If you plan a garage conversion, get project-specific advice about the building work and permissions before treating a replacement garage door as the whole solution.

What care does it need?

Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning and service instructions, keep moving parts clear and arrange checks where required. Do not adjust springs, cables or other loaded components yourself. Keep service records and your warranty documents.
